Professor Howard Gluckman BDS, MChD (Cum Laude), PhD (Summa Cum Laude)
Prof. Howard Gluckman is an internationally renowned implantologist, periodontist, author, and speaker with nearly three decades of clinical and academic experience. He graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand and completed his postgraduate qualification in Oral Medicine and Periodontics at the University of Stellenbosch with distinction. He recently earned his PhD — Summa Cum Laude — from the University of Szeged, Hungary, on the topic of Partial Extraction Therapy.
Prof. Gluckman is the Co-Founder and Director of the Implant & Aesthetic Academy (IAA), the only private accredited postgraduate dental training institute of its kind, with campuses in South Africa and London. He serves as Adjunct Professor at the University of the Western Cape and Visiting Professor at the University of Sarajevo, and played a key role in developing postgraduate Implantology Diplomas at two South African universities.
His clinical interests include immediate implant placement and loading, soft tissue aesthetics, three-dimensional bone augmentation, and Partial Extraction Therapy — including the Socket Shield, Pontic Shield, and Submerged Root Technique. He is widely published in peer-reviewed journals and has contributed chapters to several leading implantology textbooks. In 2024, he was honoured with the prestigious DentalXP Morton Amsterdam Award in Miami.
Prof. Gluckman is a Diplomate of the ICOI, Past President of the South African Society for Dental Implantology, and serves on the editorial boards of several international dental journals.
